Term One - Ms Gay's Reading Challenge - Response 5

Relic

Over the past few weeks, I've been reading Relic by Renee Collins. This could potentially be my last blog post on this book so if you want to find out the full story read it for yourself. Here are the main things that have happened in the story so far: I left the story off when Maggie jumped onto the carriage containing the Hacienda. The carriage almost arrived at the Hacienda's massive mansion but the security in the carriage noticed Maggie and pulled over. She was detained and put in a jail cell, she was treated very poorly (spat at, verbally abused, sexual jokes made etc.). The Hacienda arrived to visit Maggie and noticed what was happening. He fired his guards and allowed Maggie to stay at his to make up for what had happened, and Maggie told him about her sister. He got Ella to the mansion immediately and tried healing her (with the Unicorn relic), the Hacienda tried his hardest... but it didn't work, he gave it to Maggie to try and it worked! Ella was healed but she was still weak and needed to rest. I think this is a good place to and hopefully these blog posts have enticed you enough to read the book for yourself.

Term One - Ms Gay's Reading Challenge - Response 4

Relic

Over the past few weeks, I've been reading Relic by Renee Collins. Here are the main things that have happened in the story so far: I left the story off when Maggie checked Ella's pulse when she was attacked by two Rock-devils. The story picks up with Maggie racing Ella back to where they're staying (Maggie's old school). Maggie and Landon make it back and attempt to gather assistance/help immediately. Maggie knew who she needed, the man who offered her the job at the saloon was a very powerful, wealthy, generous man (he is a very rich Hacienda), and when they previously meet Maggie accidentally healed a wound with his very rare, expensive, powerful unicorn relic. But then she remembered that it was Yahn's hanging the same day as well. She decided to go to Yahn's hanging first. She notices the Hacienda out of the corner of her eye. She had to make a decision on who was more important, Yahn or Ella. She shed a tear and made her way to the Hacienda. He was just about to leave on his carriage. She chased him down and somehow jumped onto the carriage without anyone noticing. Read my next post to find out more.

Term One - Ms Gay's Reading Challenge - Response 3

Relic

Over the past few weeks I've been reading Relic by Renee Collins, here are the main things that have happened in the story so far. I left off the story when Yahn saved Maggie and Ella from the fire (we later find out that they are the only survivors). The story picks up two weeks later, Maggie and Ella are staying at Maggie's old school. Maggie gets tired of being cooped up inside and she decided to go into the town of Burning Mesa to find a job, she runs into an important man trying to escape the clutches of a "rather nasty" man and he offers her a job at the local saloon. Soon she makes friends with Adelaide (another "worker" at the saloon) and starts falling for a rather "handsome" cowboy named Landon. Later another town gets burned down and Yahn (I said he was important later) and his "friends" get arrested for the burnings, but Maggie sets out to prove his innocence (she does this because she somehow "knows" that it wasn't him). Maggie decided to visit her hometown with Landon to find clues about the burnings. But before Maggie leaves she tells Ella what she's about to do, Ella wanted to go with them but Maggie didn't allow it. After sometime Landon and Maggie make it to their destination... the first place Maggie went to was where her house was, but there was nothing... no house, nothing. Maggie lay there on the ground thinking of all the memories she made there, and about her parents, about her brother. In the distance she heard a familiar scream, it was the sound of Ella. Maggie and Landon rush over to the screaming, Ella was on a horse surrounded by two "Rock-Devils" (Rock-Devils are modern day mythical creatures and they have acidic projectile spit). Landon whipped out his Dragon-claw riffle and his Goblin relic. Landon gives Maggie the Goblin relic (this relic makes it possible for the user to become invisible for a period of time), Landon killed one Rock-devil but there was still another. Maggie used the Goblin relic and made her way to Ella. A Rock-devil shot an acidic spit at Ella, Maggie sprinted to Ella but she wasn't fast enough... Landon shot at the Rock-devil and killed it. Maggie ran to Ella, Ella lay there unconscious on the ground... Maggie checked for a pulse, it was faint but it was still there. Read my next post to find out more.

Relic

Over the past few weeks I've been reading Relic by Renee Collins, here are the main things that have happened in the story so far. The story started off from Maggie's point of view (she's the main character), the story started by explaining the world they live in and how magic influences / is a main part of their culture. She goes on to explain how her father thinks finding out about the long-extinct magical creatures is really important but her mother disagrees. The first main event in the story starts off when Maggie's looking after her younger siblings while her parents have gone on a date. Everything seems normal until she notices a somewhat unexplainable fire running through her town (she lives on a farm away from town, so she notices the fire in time to escape). She goes to gather her siblings and make a run for her family's "emergency location" (it's literally just a cave near some mountains). Maggie manages to round up her siblings and make it to the cave, but when she arrives there she realizes that there won't be enough protection from the raging fire so Maggie and the rest head for a nearby ravine. When they get there the notice that the ravine is engulfed from both ends with fire and the only way out is to climb the ravine. From a distance she notices a group of men on horseback making their way to them, Maggie was getting ready for the inevitable (she does this because she assumes these are the people that started the fire, (this is important later on in the story)) but the group of men came to help. One of the member's names is Yahn (this is important for later, and somehow Maggie already knows who he is). The fire is engulfing the ravine at rapid speed, the other members of this "group" made it up to the top but Yahn, Maggie and her siblings we still in the ravine, there wasn't enough time for all of them to get to the top. Maggie was willing to sacrifice herself to save her brother & sister, but her brother decided to sacrifice himself for his sisters... this was the last time they saw him. Yahn pulled up Maggie and Ella... (Ella is her younger sister but I haven't been calling her by her name because I forgot her brothers but that doesn't matter ). Term One - Ms Gay's Reading Challenge - Response 1

Relic

Today I read Relic by Renee Collins, I think the title fits the book really well because the story is about an ancient magical race that has gone extinct and there are still relics of these creatures that have powers. I like this book because it's different, compelling and intriguing. I think the author's purpose is to entertain the audience. I think the audience is younger girls because it appeals to the "female fantasy". My least favourite character is Ella because she is a liability and she doesn't add much to the story (so far). My favourite character is Maggie because she is the main character and she's likeable and relatable. Read the book to find out more.
